Learning Project — Cooking Keto.

OK. So I know this is really late because I couldn’t decide what to do for my final project. Hopefully, I will make up for the time wasted by using different forms to make my future learning project blog posts (like vlogging) and trying new crazy tools.  I will also attempt to educate people on eating keto while showing the recipes I create.

The Very Basics of Keto

1. MACROS: Eating keto means you eat high fat, moderate protein, and low carbohydrates.  I try and aim for 5-10% carbs, 25-30% protein, and 60-65% fat. This usually means you get under 20g of carbs a day.  Just for scale, there are 4 carbs per tablespoon of Heinz ketchup.

I created this graph using this website. Very simple and easy to use.

2. “YOU ARE GOING TO GET FAT BY EATING ALL THAT FAT!!” No, I’m not. Fat making people fat is a common misconception that exists today.  The only reason fat makes us fat is because we usually pair it with lots of carbohydrates.  So please don’t make the following recipes if you eat a lot of carbohydrates or you will inflate like Aunt Marge on Harry Potter. I have lost about 20 pounds from eating keto this year (I’ve been on and off of it since the summer).

3. “I want more information!” I have that information available to you. Fortunately for me, someone has already written a great basic overview of what the ketogenic diet is and how it works. More resources will come in the future.

Now, my #learningproject is going to be creating and baking keto recipes.  As you can imagine, this is incredibly difficult without using things like flour, sugar, or bread. Also, sometimes I fail at making macaroni and cheese so I am not the greatest cook of all time.

  1. I love that you’re fighting the common misconception that eating high fat content foods will cause people to gain weight. You can eat basically anything as long as we eat it in moderation and pair it with an active lifestyle!
